Lynn and I are returning from spending 3 days in Savannah. We drove here on Friday. The trip is about 6 hours from Tampa Bay. We stayed in a wonderful Westin hotel along the Savannah River on Hutchinson Island. The hotel is directly across the river from historic Savannah. There is a large free water ferry that transports you quickly to two hotel destinations along the riverfront. Dining in Savannah is a highlight. We had seafood and souther fried chicken at The Pirates House, The Old Pink House, Boars Head, Churchill's Pub and The River House. All are 4 star or above and highly recommended. Last night we took a Ghost and Gravestone Tour that was pretty hokey and won't be on our recommended list.
More later...
Dave and Lynn have traveled to 6 continents and 77 countries. Dave reports on their travels with comment and photography.

Traveling in America's Birthplace
We have been traveling in Virginia this past week. We started the week with cold (20 degrees) and snow. The weather warmed to 75 degrees yesterday. Go figure. Lynn and I had been to Colonial Williamsburg 39 years ago (whew!). It was fun visiting this 18th Century village again which was originally funded as a non-profit foundation by John D. Rockefeller in the 1920s. This is where America as we know it today began. The reenactors here are very knowledgeable and interesting to interact with.
We also drove to Thomas Jefferson's beautiful plantation and home, Monticello, near Charlottesville. Our guide, Aurelia Crawford, was excellent. Jefferson had a curiosity about everything and some of his innovations are displayed in the house. Our 3rd President and members of his large family are buried in the cemetery on the property.
